INTRODUCTION

• And the Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money-changers sitting. And when He had made a scourge of small cords, He drove them all out of the temple, also the sheep and the oxen. And He poured out the money-changers' money and overthrew the tables. (John 2:12-15)

• And He said to those who sold doves, Take these things away from here. Do not make My Father's house a house of merchandise. And His disciples remembered that it was written, "The zeal of Your house has eaten Me up." Then the Jews answered and said to Him, What sign do you show us, since you do these things? (John 2:16-18)

• JESUS answered and said to them, Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up. (John 2:19)

• Then the Jews said, This temple was forty-six years building, and will you rear it up in three days? (John 2:20)

• But He spoke of the temple of His body. (John 2:21)

• Therefore when He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this to them, and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had said. (John 2:22)

What really ignites or triggers Christ death on the cross? It is very interesting that the prophetic statement of Christ in John 2:19, which is about the destruction and its raising up (or building) of the TEMPLE, triggered the decision of the Jewish authorities to impose on Him the verdict of Death! WHY?

When Christ was asked by the High Priest to answer the accusation about His statement in John 2:19, Christ was silent and did not give an answer. But when the High Priest asked Him about whether He is the Messiah and the SON OF GOD, Christ gave a positive answer, and He was so excited that He even add more information. WHY?

• Jesus said to him, You said it. I tell you more. From this time you shall see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming on the clouds of the Heavens. (Mat 26:64)

Now, let's go back and scrutinize Christ statement in John 2:19; He said, "Destroy this Temple and in three days I will raise it up." The physical aspect of fulfillment of this prophecy occurred at His death and resurrection. 

Now, let's ask the question, "Why 3 days?"

JUST LIKE JONAH IN THE BELLY OF THE HUGE FISH

• But He answered...An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign. And there shall be no sign given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. (Mat 12:39)

• For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the huge fish, so the Son of Man shall be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. (Mat 12:40)

So Christ was saying that there was a PAST fulfillment of His death and resurrection, in the experience of Jonah, that parallels the PRESENT (time of His death or "sleep" from His death on the cross to His Resurrection).

Now, another question: Is there a FUTURE fulfillment of John 2:19, in relation to Christ being the SON OF GOD?

AN EXCITING NEW REVELATION!

The Disciples then, and all Christians today, understood the physical aspect of Christ's death and resurrection after 3 days and 3 nights. But how about its Spiritual and Heavenly aspect, which are of more significance and importance?
